What If - Encountering an Error While Upgrading APPSeCONNECT Agent

APPSeCONNECT has an on-premise agent that does the data transfer between applications after getting the configurations and the logic is defined in our cloud solution. The designed workflow is deployed in the agent and it packs itself into a database to execute the actual processing.

In the meanwhile, the agent also captures some important data in its databases, which needs to be kept properly to ensure a smooth running of the sync process.

When a new and improved version of the agent is released, we always encourage you to upgrade it to get the maximum benefit from the platform. When you install the agent and there is a version update, you have two options :

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall the application
  2. Upgrade the application.

In the 2nd option, you will need to use our migration tool to migrate the old data to support the new installation. In almost all cases you will get it properly migrated, but once in a blue moon, you will see an unwanted error message while upgrading the solution. In this topic, we will see what are the options that you can take to troubleshoot this problem.

Cause

If your database is already corrupt or inaccessible or maybe the database cannot be modified or there is not enough disk space available to perform the migration.

Solution

If you are upgrading, the first step is to do a backup of existing data. To manually back up the existing data, go to Start -> Run, type %programdata% and click OK.

After you open the window, you will get to see the APPSeCONNECT folder, back up the files inside this folder in a separate location, before you execute the Migration tool. Once you run the migration tool, make sure you do not stop it in the midway, by this way, you are ensuring the data is getting migrated properly. The migration tool might need a lot of time to execute, so make sure you have enough time.

If the problem is with disk space, please make sure there should be always at least 25% of disk space left free for executing the migration tool.

After the migration is complete, make sure you do Update the Adapter to ensure the adapters are downloaded in the project.

Conclusion

As per rule, when a solution is upgraded, it should be practice to ensure the migration process is perfectly done. We would strongly recommend contacting your implementation consultant when you want to upgrade the solution, or else you can do it after backing up the required files which will be migrated after installation.
