Places To Explore

Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma

Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma

Commonly known as La Seu, this is a Gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral built by the Crown of Aragon and is 121 meters long, 40 meters wide and has a nave that is  44 meters tall. The surprising fact about this church is that this magnificent building was built in over 350 years and has the largest nave of all gothic-style cathedrals.

Caves of Genova

Considered as a treasure, it was discovered in 1906. A  good place to enjoy and visit unique natural experiences with the wondrous interior of the caves. It also consists of underground galleries which are connected by corridors. The visitors can also enjoy an aperitif and taste a variety of Mallorcan tapas.

Palma Aquarium

If you love the underwater experience, this is your perfect place to visit. A commercial aquarium cum park, the Palma Aquarium is home to 7000 different species of marine life from the Mediterranean, Indian, Atlantic and Pacific regions. The aquarium unfolds a lot of hidden facts and beauty of nature, so if you’re in Palma this a must-go place for you.

Walk to Castel de Bellver :

One of the few well-preserved circular castles, it is situated on a pine-forested hill for about 700 years and is a major spot of attraction in Palma. It is now used for hosting classical concerts and various kinds of events.

Waters of Calo des Moro :

If you are in the mood for “beach please!” you must visit this place. The beauty of translucent turquoise blue water will amaze you. It is surrounded by pine trees, shrubs and various plants. Swimming and snorkeling can be done here and nearby lies various other beaches as well.

Sa Llotja:

Likely said, looks can be deceptive, similarly, Sa Llotja looks like a half-church, half-castle but is neither of them. Currently, it is being used for temporary exhibitions and a good place to visit.

Food to Try!

palma-spain-food

Spain is well-renowned around the world for its delicious cuisines and Palma de Mallorca is the foodie epicenter of the Balearic Islands. The local food generally consists of pork, fish and vegetables. Also, people going in the event can expect to taste the regional Spanish food with flavors dominated with garlic, olives, walnuts, etc. Here are some of the must-try cuisines for the attendees going in the SAP SMB Innovation Summit in Palma de Mallorca:

Sobrassada

Sobrassada is a raw, cured sausage from the Balearic Islands made with ground pork, paprika and salt and other spices. If you want to purchase a sausage of sobrassada, some of the best in Palma can be found at Mercat Olivar. Arguably the best sobrasada is made with porc negre (black pig), a native breed to the island of Mallorca. Just try!

Tumbet

Tumbet is a simple yet amazing dish in the Palma region – made with fried aubergines, potatoes, red peppers, tomatoes, olive oil and garlic, this is most similar to a French ratatouille and samfaina from Cataluña and Valencia.

Coca Mallorquina

These are of course local dishes in their own right. The coca is a very simple but glorious Mallorca food. Flatbread dough is topped with vegetables and baked, a popular version being coca de trempó. This food is generally enjoyed as a snack and portions of coca can be found in the bakeries all over the Balearic Islands.

Ensaïmada

Ensaimada is easily the most famous pastry from Mallorca – this sugar-dusted delicacy is similar to the croissant and has been proudly produced on the island since the 17th century. What makes it unusual and so excellent is that the fat used is ‘saim’ (pork lard), rather than butter. Try a slice or two over a cup of coffee from the 400-year old bakery Fornet de la Soca, widely considered as the best in Palma.

Pa’ amb Oli

This straightforward snack consists of a thick slice of hearty moreno bread rubbed with garlic, over which comes a layer of freshly squished ramallet tomato, a drizzle of olive oil and flaked sea salt. Visit the hugely popular restaurant Mesón C’an Pedro in Génova, established in 1976, which is well-known for its specialty in such rustic Mallorcan fare.

Tapas

Tapas is a quintessential part of Spanish food and it can be found all over the Islands.  A great spot to sample local tapas in Palma is at Mercat 1930, a tight knot of covered food and drink stalls.

Trempo

Trempo is a simple salad made with the basic components of tomato, onion, Mallorcan green bell pepper, olive oil and salt. This is the perfect example of that thing Mediterranean food does so well –  allowing superb ingredients to speak for themselves.
