Brothers Preben and Erik Damgaard founded the company Damgaard Data with the purpose of creating a computer-based accounting software for business owners. Microsoft Dynamics AX, originally named IBM Axapta, was first released in 1998 with collaborative efforts from IBM and Damgaard – but did anyone know that in a few years it was going to become one of the leading enterprise-level ERPs in the market?

In December 2000, Damgaard Data merged with Navision Software A/S to form NavisionDamgaard which released the next version – Axapta 2.5.
