Bernardo 1946 - Bringing Footwear Heritage into the Age of Connected Commerce with APPSeCONNECT

How Bernardo 1946 Brought Order Sync, Inventory Accuracy, and Fulfilment Control Together Across Shopify, Dsco, and SAP Business One Through APPSeCONNECT.

The Story of Bernardo 1946

Bernardo 1946 is a premium footwear brand with a history that goes back more than 75 years. Founded by Bernard Rudofsky, the brand is widely credited for introducing the modern sandal and shaping what contemporary footwear looks like today. Crafted at a family-run factory in Brazil, every pair is made by hand using locally sourced and recycled materials wherever possible.

Over the decades, Bernardo has stayed true to its founding philosophy, making footwear that is elegant, comfortable, and built for real life. Whether for everyday wear or travel, the brand combines heritage craftsmanship with a modern sensibility that continues to attract customers who value quality over trends.

As the brand grew its digital footprint and expanded across multiple sales channels, it became clear that operational processes needed to keep up with that growth. Orders were coming in from different directions, inventory had to be tracked across systems, and fulfilment information needed to flow without friction.

A Growing Brand with a Growing Set of Moving Parts

Bernardo 1946 was running its eCommerce through Shopify and managing marketplace and retail order distribution through Dsco. SAP Business One sat at the centre of back-end operations as the primary ERP. Each of these platforms served a distinct purpose, but they were operating largely in silos.

Without a reliable way to pass data between these systems, the team had to step in manually, transferring orders, updating inventory figures, and managing fulfilment information by hand. As order volumes grew, this manual effort became harder to sustain. Errors crept in. Delays followed. The team was spending more time on data entry than on the work that actually drives a business forward.

What Bernardo needed was a way to connect these platforms so that information moved on its own, accurately, reliably, and without requiring constant human intervention.

The Challenges

As Bernardo 1946 scaled across channels, three operational gaps made themselves felt:

1. Orders Arriving from Multiple Channels, Processed Manually

Before APPSeCONNECT: Orders from both Shopify and Dsco had to be manually entered into SAP Business One. With multiple channels active at the same time, this was a time-consuming process that left room for mistakes.

Impact:

  • Processing delays meant orders took longer to reach fulfilment.
  • Manual entry introduced inconsistencies in order data.
  • Staff time was spent on routine data work instead of customer-focused activity.
2. Inventory Figures That Couldn’t Keep Up

Before APPSeCONNECT: Inventory levels were updated manually, which meant the numbers shown across platforms were often behind reality. A product could appear available in the store while it had already sold out in the warehouse.

Impact:

  • Overselling caused frustration for customers expecting their orders to be fulfilled.
  • Stock discrepancies led to avoidable back-and-forth with customers.
  • The team spent significant time reconciling inventory figures across systems.
3. Fulfilment Status Stuck in Silos

Before APPSeCONNECT: Once an order was picked, packed, and shipped, getting that shipment information back to Shopify or Dsco required manual steps. Customers were left waiting for tracking updates that should have arrived automatically.

Impact:

  • Delayed notifications reduced trust in the post-purchase experience.
  • Staff had to manually chase and update fulfilment statuses across platforms.
  • The gap between shipping and notification created unnecessary support volume.

The Solution: APPSeCONNECT's Integration Across Shopify, Dsco, and SAP B1

APPSeCONNECT was brought in to connect Bernardo’s systems and automate the data flows that were previously handled by hand. The implementation covered two integration paths:

1. SAP Business One with Shopify Integration

After APPSeCONNECT: APPSeCONNECT automated five key workflows between Shopify and SAP Business One

Outcome:

  • Order Sync – Shopify orders flow directly into SAP B1 as soon as they are placed, removing the need for manual entry and speeding up processing time.
  • Order Fulfilment Sync – Shipment and fulfilment details from SAP B1 are automatically sent back to Shopify, keeping customers informed without staff having to intervene.
  • Invoice Sync – Invoice records are kept consistent between the two systems, supporting accurate financial tracking.
  • Stock Update – Inventory levels on Shopify reflect actual stock in SAP B1, updated automatically so the storefront always shows accurate availability.
  • Product Sync – Product data stays consistent across both platforms, reducing discrepancies and making catalogue management more reliable.
2. Dsco with SAP Business One Integration

After APPSeCONNECT: For Bernardo’s marketplace and retail channel through Dsco, APPSeCONNECT automated

Outcome:

  • Order Sync – Dsco orders are passed directly into SAP B1 for processing, following the same pattern as Shopify orders.
  • Inventory Sync – Stock updates made in SAP B1 are reflected in Dsco, so availability shown to retail partners stays accurate.
  • Order Fulfilment Sync – Fulfilment status flows from SAP B1 back to Dsco automatically, keeping retail partners up to date without manual reporting.

The Implementation Journey

APPSeCONNECT worked with the Bernardo 1946 team to map out the exact workflows needed across both integration paths. The setup was built to reflect how the business actually operates, not a generic template, but a configuration tailored to Bernardo’s specific mix of channels, ERP logic, and fulfilment process. From the point of go-live, both integrations ran in sync, with data moving between platforms without needing a person in the middle.

The Results & Impact

The changes following integration were felt quickly and across multiple parts of the business:

  • Faster Order Processing Across Channels: Orders from both Shopify and Dsco now land in SAP Business One automatically. There is no queue of manual entries to get through, and processing begins as soon as an order is placed.
  • Accurate Inventory Across Platforms: Stock levels update in real time, so what customers and retail partners see on the front end reflects what is actually available. Overselling has stopped being a regular occurrence.
  • Better Post-Purchase Experce: Customers and retail partners receive fulfilment and tracking updates without the team having to manually push that information through. The experience on the other side of an order has improved without extra effort.
  • Time Redirected to What Matters: With routine data sync happening automatically, the team can spend more of their time on the things that actually grow the business, product, customers, and channel strategy.

Key Highlights

  • Dual integration connecting SAP Business One with both Shopify and Dsco.
  • Automated order sync, fulfilment updates, inventory tracking, invoice sync, and product data management.
  • Real-time data flow across eCommerce and marketplace channels.
  • Reduced manual workload with improved data accuracy across all connected systems.
Why It Matters

For a brand like Bernardo 1946,one that has built its reputation over 75 years on quality and care, the same standards need to apply to operations. Customers who buy a pair of Bernardo sandals expect a smooth experience from the moment they order to the moment it arrives. Connecting the systems that power that experience was not a nice-to-have. It was a necessary step for the business to grow without the back-end getting in the way.
